V6B 5R3 Tel: 1-800-224-9376 Dear David Cobb: As a B.C. Hydro customer, we oppose the installation of a “Smart Meter” at our home. We wish to opt out of this program.Kindly advise us at your earliest convenience as to what, if anything else, may be required for us to opt out of the Smart Meter program for our home. We only consent to a wired meter. We would support Ethernet, cable or phone connections. These would not involve wireless devices, and would eliminate the many public health concerns related to wireless networks in the home from these wireless Hydro meters. We strongly urge you to delay the installation of SmartMeters until the privacy, security and public health issues can be resolved We would appreciate a response to ensure that you have received our objections to the Smart Meter program and our request to opt out of this program. Thank you. Attention: Cindy Verschoor Communications & Public Affairs Smart Metering & Infrastructure Program cindy.verschoor@bchydro.com Dear Ms. Verschoor: These meters use wireless transmitters, which rely on signals in the microwave spectrum similar to cell phones and WiFi computer systems. This band, between the 900 Mhz to 2.4 Ghz range, has been shown in numerous independent international studies to have effects on human health at power levels even below those commonly used to transmit these signals. Our bodies rely on electrical signals to function; our cells, like any communication network, rely on them to repair and sustain themselves. Pulsed radiation from microwaves disrupts cellular communication in biological systems. Some scientific studies have shown that cellular damage is done by repeated exposure to microwave signals, including DNA strand breaks. The body cannot repair double-strand DNA breaks, which can result in cancer and also “become genetic mutation that is passed on to offspring. Children, the elderly and infirm are especially vulnerable to electromagnetic radiation. And the effects are cumulative. Please avoid setting the stage for more widespread chronic illness, cancers and cognitive disorders by cancelling the SmartMeter program. Thank you.
